With so many materials to learn from, it is often difficult to know what is most important to take away from a source and how to capture the meaning or information provided. Thankfully, this is a skill that you can learn and harness to your advantage.

Note-taking is key to capturing the most vital concepts and ideas and recording them in a way that will be useful to you afterwards, whether for an assessment or an exam.

Summarising and paraphrasing play an important role in developing your understanding of another’s ideas by allowing you to reduce detailed texts to key ideas and to portray these in your own words. This can include techniques such as using synonyms and restructuring information, which means you can save direct quotations for the most eloquent and persuasive phrases.

Effectively using these tools at your disposal will also help build your arguments by succinctly stating the ideas of others followed by your own analysis of their accuracy or utility.

Register to attend.
