Reading is an unavoidable part of academic life that can be both immensely stimulating as well as hugely daunting. Knowing what you are reading for can help you develop effective strategies for gaining the most out of a text without necessarily having to read word for word.

Depending on the purpose, approaches might vary from skimming and scanning to reading for understanding. Effective reading – reading with a clear purpose – also helps to keep focussed and prepares you to put the knowledge gained to good use.

This 1-hour workshop will offer tips and tricks for reading effectively depending on a range of purposes and will hopefully encourage students to engage more with this fundamental task and to reap its many benefits.
